CULTURAL AND HUMANITARIAN VACATIONS
   Promoting Responsible Travel

Women are notoriously generous and enjoy “giving back,” especially when their own lives are well-blessed. After 25 years in the adventure travel business, we believe it more important than ever to offer trips that allow participants to experience more than just visiting a country. For that reason, we have developed a new set of travel opportunities where you can enjoy a cultural tour while also participating in a humanitarian adventure vacation that gives back to the local people and cultures we meet on our travels. We have named these trips promoting responsible travel, AdventureWomen’s “Humanitours.”

If you’re a member of the Baby Boomer generation, you know the effect the Vietnam War had on all of our lives. It was a tumultuous time. We learned to question government, politics, virtue, honesty, culture, and the media. The war influenced Susan Eckert’s decision to go into the Peace Corps, and subsequently her determination to have her own adventure travel business. She wanted to share her experiences and educate travelers about other cultures. Susan believes, very strongly, that travel is one of the greatest tools we have for world peace; it breaks down barriers and fosters understanding like nothing else can.

In 2004 and 2006, we offered our first Humanitours in Vietnam and Bhutan that included money for humanitarian projects in the cost of the trip. They were wildly successful!

For  2008 we had two Humanitour adventures: one in Southern India and one in Bhutan, and for 2009 we are repeating our Bhutan trip. Please consider joining us on our AdventureWomen Humanitours. Keep giving back. It's good for the soul.

Hiking to a nunnery in Bhutan, we took blankets and fleece jackets to 50 nuns.

Visiting an orphanage in Vietnam, we had time to play with the children.

Our sampam donation went to an exuberant young couple in the Mekong Delta.
